I'm in the process of plotting my coin values into my spreadsheet.  The vast majority I hadn't looked up and hadn't really thought much about.  I've had a couple of eye openers but the biggest surprise was my XF copy of the Panama 1933 1/10 Balboa.  It's a small coin and I didn't think it would be worth much.  I just about fell off my chair when the value came back at US$95 which is about NZ$120.  Not bad for something I picked out of a bulk bag!!

Anyone else find any rarities they didn't know they had?
Something like a VF+ North Borneo cent from the 1890's that I bought with another F-VF cent for 4 bucks.

Nice.  I love the design of the North Borneo coins
I also got my coin in a bulk bag, and thanks to Numista I would never have known it was a mule ...

 Obverse KM# 807 or KM# 823 and reverse KM# 817 makes the mule KM# 811

Nice, what grade would you put on it?  It doesn't look unc, XF maybe?
I know nothing of grading - never have, never will - but yes not UNC so maybe XF.  :)
Not nearly as big as yours, but I going through my sort pile and found a Portugal 20 Centavos 1952.  Low mintage and books at about $12.

I had bought a bulk lot and sorted all the dismal copper coins out, they were worn so bad that they were almost all smooth. About a year later I was going to get rid of them and noticed one was kinda black and not too badly worn. I found it to be this! https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces277.html
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
As a child, back in the 70-ies, I was a frantic coin collector. Most of my pocket money went to coins. Then, I didn't do much with my collection for 30 years: university, girl friend, kid, career - you know. Few years ago I wiped the dust from my collection, and the virus is back.

Lately, I decided to verify the value of my collection against ngccoin.com prices. I'm at two thirds now, and already harvested the following awesome discoveries:

Belgium KM #36, 2 centimen 1909, XF: $30 (=ngc price)
Belgium KM #130, 5 francs 1945, VF: $80
Denmark KM #192.1, 1 öre 1888, VF: $62,50
France KM #821.1, 5 centimes 1896 torch, VF: $85
British North Borneo KM #2, 1 Cent 1907H, VF: $300

The last discovery made my heart skip some beats. The coin has a dark toning, which will probably lower its value, but I still find it hard to believe that I have a coin worth that much.

Since my pocket money wasn't much at the time, I'm pretty sure that I never paid more than 2.5 guilders for any of them, most likely far less than that.

So, the best advice I have to all of you: start collecting while you're still a kid. ;)

The Danish and French coins are up for swap, by the way.
The other ones aren't. :P

Awesome, I got an 1867 F+-VF copy of that for about $5 on an auction.  Nobody else bid on it!

Not quite as good but I just picked up one of these for 1/3 catalogue value
